39 Club Spring Lunch

On Friday 8th October at the Victory Services Club, Marble Arch W1 after 18 months of uncertainty and postponement, The 39 Club at last was able to host the 64th Annual Spring Lunch.

The event was a resounding success seeing just under 100 members, their family members and guests managing to once again come together in Central London to celebrate the long standing menswear industry comeraderiee we hold so dear, especially during these new challenging times.

Nigel Lugg OBE, our guest of honour, toasted the 39 Club with a glowing account of his fascinating career covering Liberty, House of Fraser buying right up to Chairing the UKFT.

Eloquent humour and ribbing of members present, Stuart Henderson brought laughter and entertained the room so well to bring things to a conclusion. Many thanks are extended to both Nigel and Stuart for being so patient in waiting for the lunch to actually happen.

Keith Brown, our Chairman, thanked many Honorary Members who attended including Paddy Bennett who made the journey once again from Ireland and Eric Musgrave without whom we would not have been able to record the event with his excellent imagery.

The Chairman's chosen charity is now Place 2 Be which is a very worthy cause improving children's mental health in schools in not only the South London area. We generated an excellent collection for this wonderful cause. Thank you for your generosity.

Many thanks also to all who attended and already a week or so later the club has enrolled another new member in Nigel Pinnock which demonstrates the continued relevance of The 39 Club today.

We will return to some sense of normality next year with the Spring Lunch being held once again at the superb Victory Services Club on Friday 25th March and the Banquet Weekend, Spires Hotel, Oxford City Centre October 7th to 9th 2022.

39 Club Chairman's Day Out 2021

After a very long wait, The 39 Club's Chairman's Day Out was held last Friday 19th September in Central London. Keith Brown our Chairman organised a tour guide and we were treated to some fascinating historical facts and interest within the Soho area. Starting with Charles II's development of Soho Square back in the 17th Century to the Trident Studios where David Bowie recorded his early albums which outside displays his blue plaque. The wonderful, fun and informative tour guide Adam finished up at Poppies fish and chips for a late lunch on the site of the 2ii coffee bar which in the 60s helped launched many musical careers.  Who would have thought that coffee bars are still such a thing on the high streets today, but sadly without the exciting skiffle and early 60s live music they enjoyed back then and many still enjoy today.

Well done Mr Chairman, it was a tremendous day and remarkable to be able safely conduct such an event. The social calendar of The 39 Club is now getting back on track.

Marc Querol has joined The 39 Club at the recently held July committee meeting. Marc hails from Barcelona and runs the successful Double H agency representing brands including Eden Park, Carlos Cordoba, Garcia, S4 Jackets, Lavant, St James and Sunwill.

Marc says "When I started my adventure inside the UK fashion sector in 2014, I have been always trying to develop myself and improve each area of it. However, the achievement of being part of such a historical Menswear Agents Club, with all the iconic and unique people that have been part of it, is far away from what I ever thought I could reach. It is an honor to become the latest and one of the youngest.

Being part of The 39 Club means a lot, it means that you are part of a family, part of a team, part of human people that have a huge knowledge of menswear fashion that I will be never closer in my life.

Definitely, it is like having a second family that you can be calling, talking, and enjoying, I hope for many years. But most of all, after just one meeting the human behavior that I discovered in each of the members I met. This is for me the most important thing."

The 39 Club warmly welcomes Marc to the fold.
