Spring Lunch VSC 2022

Friday 25th March saw the 65th consecutive 39 Club Spring lunch held at the wonderful Carisbrooke Hall at the Victory Services Club at Marble Arch, Central London.

The 39 Club hosted 102 diners for the well attended lunch which included Richard Ireland ex-AIS Menswear Controller as the Guest of Honour who recalled many enlightening stories of his career in Menswear.

Our Chairman, Keith Brown, also chose to continue the Club's support for Place2Be that supports essential mental health services within more than 400 schools around the country.

Stuart Henderson brought some joy and laughter to the entire room with his wit, wisdom and stories of Club members recent antics.

The Victory Services Club excelled with their superb food and attentive service, the Club have certainly found a new home for this prestigious annual event. A massive thank you goes to all the F&B staff, chefs and service team at the Victory Services Club.

On behalf of the Chairman, we would like to thank all guests, members, family and friends of the 39 Club that made the huge effort to travel into Central London to ensure this was a well attended and tremendously successful event for the Menswear Trade

Place2Be Donation

What a way to start 2022! Early in January, before the first monthly meeting of the year at the Mason's Arms, The 39 Club were most proud to hand over a donation to Place2Be at their Head Office in Clerkenwell. Place2Be support schools around the UK with essential mental health support. Chairman Keith Brown, Hon Sec Peter Boyd, Hon Treasurer Brian Winterbourne and Social Sec  Andy Tompsett much enjoyed handing over the funds we have collected for this very worthy cause.

This is the first charity donation the 39 Club has been able to make since the pandemic and it was the most uplifting experience and a reminder that life is slowly gaining more traction to normality.

Our Chairman Keith Brown has decided to keep supporting Place2Be for the last remaining year of his tenure in the Chair. Naturally, Place2Be were delighted. On behalf of the Chairman can we thank every single member, Hon member, family and guests who contributed to this extremely worthy cause.

Here's to building a healthier, better more giving 2022.

39 Club Spring Lunch

On Friday 8th October at the Victory Services Club, Marble Arch W1 after 18 months of uncertainty and postponement, The 39 Club at last was able to host the 64th Annual Spring Lunch.

The event was a resounding success seeing just under 100 members, their family members and guests managing to once again come together in Central London to celebrate the long standing menswear industry comeraderiee we hold so dear, especially during these new challenging times.

Nigel Lugg OBE, our guest of honour, toasted the 39 Club with a glowing account of his fascinating career covering Liberty, House of Fraser buying right up to Chairing the UKFT.

Eloquent humour and ribbing of members present, Stuart Henderson brought laughter and entertained the room so well to bring things to a conclusion. Many thanks are extended to both Nigel and Stuart for being so patient in waiting for the lunch to actually happen.

Keith Brown, our Chairman, thanked many Honorary Members who attended including Paddy Bennett who made the journey once again from Ireland and Eric Musgrave without whom we would not have been able to record the event with his excellent imagery.

The Chairman's chosen charity is now Place 2 Be which is a very worthy cause improving children's mental health in schools in not only the South London area. We generated an excellent collection for this wonderful cause. Thank you for your generosity.

Many thanks also to all who attended and already a week or so later the club has enrolled another new member in Nigel Pinnock which demonstrates the continued relevance of The 39 Club today.

We will return to some sense of normality next year with the Spring Lunch being held once again at the superb Victory Services Club on Friday 25th March and the Banquet Weekend, Spires Hotel, Oxford City Centre October 7th to 9th 2022.
