Chairman's Day Out July 2016

Chairman's Day Out last Monday 11th July saw the 13 39 Club members be escorted by a Blue Badge guide, Dr Barry Walsh for an exclusive guided walk around St James' and Mayfair. The tour took us into Floris perfumers, Christies auction house, the beautiful Wren St James' church and a private tour of 150 year old John Lobb's the shoemakers which was a fascinating insight. Large thanks to Dr Barry Walsh our guide, who was able to organise these private tours of places we have all walked past over time in our own backyard.

The lively lunch followed at the Kings Head in Albemarle and Stafford Street where close by, 60 years previously, the first 39 Club meeting was held in

1956 at the Duke of Albemarle.

60th Anniversary Spring Lunch for The 39 Club

Friday 18th March 2016 saw the 60th Anniversary of the Annual Spring Lunch for The 39 Club. More than one hundred guests attended the splendid event held at the Royal Overseas League in St James’s, off Piccadilly in Central London. The image shows some members of the current club committee, from Left to Right: Denis Hanks (Social Sec.), Brian Winterbourne (Hon. Treasurer), John Brown (President), Andrew Tompsett (Chairman), Tony Scott (Hon. Secretary), Simon Lovell (Vice Chairman), Paul Garrett and Paul Humphrey.

This year’s spectacular lunch saw more than £1200 raised for the Chairman’s annual charity choice, Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice. The collection was followed with an excellent and very humorous address from the well-respected rugby commentator Andrew Titheridge.   A splendid time was had by all!

Men's Wear - March 1979

I recently came across a copy of Men's Wear from 1979 and noticed a mention of The 39 Club on the attached page under the heading "Retired". I am sure some of the older members will remember Mr Curzon-Thompson.

Chairman's Day Out 2015

Andrew Tompsett hosted the traditional “Chairman's Day Out” last Thursday August 27th and the day started with an excellent, very informative and enjoyable tour of Wembley Stadium.  Thank you Rob.  I doubt the team 39 would really be able to hold the real FA Cup at the Royal Box, however they also seemed to enjoy hosting a press conference in the press suite too!   After such thirsty work and an awful lot of walking the members adjourned for refreshment at the Ana Capri, a favourite haunt in Marylebone for some well deserved lunch.
