39 Club members attended the funeral and celebration of the colourful and long life of George Salmon who was Chairman during 1978/9. George was always known for his charm and excellent quick wit, he entertained the Club and the many guests during the annual Spring lunches as a double act with Clive Sinden, mostly at the Café Royal in Regents Street, London W1. The 39 Club’s very own Eric Morecambe if you like, his appreciation of good humour was second to none. Maybe it was the tips he got from Tommy Cooper?!
Current members Richard Craddock, Denis Hanks, Social Secretary and Andrew Tompsett, President, along with ex-member Colin Garside, Nigel Lugg and George Orris joined the many family and friends to give the wonderful character George a great send off.
His words “Wish me luck (As You Wave Me Goodbye)” closed the proceedings with a wry smile I am sure and sung by Gracie Fields. George leaves wife Joan, daughter Sue, son Stephen and five grandchildren.
